The history of Nid d'Hirondelle

The building dates back to 1690 and was used as a farm.
After the Second World War the building was changed into the Mon Repos boarding house with 14 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 2 toilets.
The kitchen used to be outside the building in a small house where the owner cooked herself up till 1988.
Rooms were let only in the summer for there was no heating. Holiday-makers usually spent an average of two to four weeks.
Balls were often organised as well as wedding receptions in the room where one now finds the aparthotels, it used to be the only reception room of the neighbourhood.

Why the name Nid d'Hirondelle (Sparrow’s nest) ?

With the warm weather approaching and in order to have fresh air, the previous owners had decided to open wide the bedroom windows. To our surprise when we came by for a visit we found the second floor in particular had been completely invaded by unusual boarders, sparrows which had seized the opportunity and were set on making their nests.
Thus the name of the hotel was found even before the decision to buy it had been taken.

Who are we ?

September 25th, 1991: After the sparrows left, work could finally get started. One room out of two was turned into a bathroom.

May 21st, 1992: The opening of the Hotel – Restaurant with 7 bedrooms and one dining room seating 20.

January 30th, 1996: The dining area was extended and a more spacious kitchen was set up. Construction of the aparthotels in the ballroom.

February 10th, 1999: Creation of 3 extra bedrooms on the ground floor.

October 1st, 2000: Opening of a new dining room (non smoking) and fitting of a new terrace.

Summer of 2004: New washrooms for the restaurant and souvenir shop.
